“I believe that saying what you want to say with the exact amount of writing necessary is a very admirable skill; the ability to write about a lot, with only a few words is even more so impressive.”—"Brevity is Undervalued," Tyler Graham
Many people line in large grocery stores for basic commodities compared to local stores, which is becoming a trend nowadays. This type of behavior is rooted from different causes, and I think could bring undesirable effects to the economy of the country.
Supermarkets have been designed to produce a comfortable, pleasing environment. This is a discernable characteristic compared to local stores, and is one of the causes of the shift of preference of stores. The time used in buying goods are maximized by families as bonding moments, this gives supermarkets a great advantage. Having large areas for storage, supermarkets hold a wide variety of products in large quantity of stock. Customers, knowing that, would usually patronize ones that offer more choices with the inclination that seeing a couple of differences between grocery stuffs could help them buy which is best for them.
The quality of products is affected by how much investment storeowners give to their business. Local storeowners have lesser capital than these large supermarkets. Buying in supermarkets would give one the security of good quality products, for most items there are under strict quality control, which local stores could not provide.
Purchasing in grocery stores might be more beneficial for customers with the advantages enumerated, but seeing this afar, the effects to economy might be detrimental. If all people buy from supermarkets the income from this type of transactions would all go to a handful of people. Local, and small merchants’ businesses will die and would contribute to the rising unemployment rate of the country. This, in turn, would drift middle-class families to below-standard living.
In summary, supermarkets provide people with varied quality goods in high-class environment leading to a shift to where people will spend more money for commodities. Not mindful of the fact, people patronize to such monopoly to which I think is a bad development for the inevitable shutting down local businesses in the long run.
Migration is at current height these days. People are meeting new people, and are facing new problems, which is countered by adaption and resiliency.
People are meant to communicate with other people. In this respect, one of the challenges that migrants encounter is language barrier. It is harder to get along with most if a person does not understand its surroundings. This could result to problems like getting lost in a complex city, or worse eating something that is not edible. While it would be tedious, there is no better solution than to study the language of your host country. Being able to learn, with at least the basic, of the people around one gives a chance to make a friendly environment and a sense of belongingness.
In a state of culture shock, one may interpret everything that one’s current vicinity is dangerous, or potentially harmful. When people move to new cities or countries they can be overwhelmed with the difference of practices and norms. This encounter could yield to various levels of anxiety depending on their knowledge of the culture, and perception of uniqueness. One may say that formulation of strategies is inevitable and human instinct, but it seemingly stands out that respect comes most appropriate in these cases. If one delineates its territory of influence, then he or she should be able to understand people work in various ways. Respect entails broadening of horizon, and surprisingly this could lead improvement to one’s behavior in term of interpersonal relations. Personally, I was, at first, offended when a certain French guy alternatingly kissed me on the cheek three times, then I understood it was not a way of taking advantage but their form of greeting, and I respected that.
Being ready, by means of upgrading knowledge in language and culture, before even moving addresses could help lessen the stress one would carry in migrating. Challenges are present everyday, and so much more with being in a new place for everything around is not so familiar, where bringing your values intact would aid to the various relationships you would form.
